Week 47: I am so much better at basketball than me

Hey friends, family, fun people, and cool beans. Welcome to this weekly update hosted by the one and only Colin Yost. Just kidding it's me. Sorry I had to scare you there for a bit.

So this weekly email will probably be a little shorter because I really can't think of what to say about this week other than tourists. There are so many tourists. Like so. so. many. Ugh. And I am basically equivalent to a tourist in certain respects but I have been here for at least four months so I feel entitled to say I am a local. So yeah.

Tuesday was finding people to teach. Good stuff.

Sadly we were told by the Europe Area Security Department that missionaries in England needed to be inside their flats by 6:30pm so we did not get to watch the game. Let's just say Elder Man was...disappointed, or in his words, dead. In the final few moments before we needed to be home, I was able to buy some chicken nuggets and ice cream so the night was not totally depressing.

Thursday we had district meeting and it went really well! It was super weird not having Elder Burton, Elder Clement and Elder Dos Santos there but we managed. We were also able to teach our friend preparing for baptism over Skype. #technology

Friday was a long day but it was a blast. We had an appointment in this place called summertown but no one was home when we arrived. So we decided to walk home and stop by a basketball court we had seen on the way to our appointment. As some background, we play basketball with one of our friends every Saturday morning. It's super fun and I lose every time but I can still kind of hold my own. The only problem is that we do not have very many people to play with. We have been trying to find more people to join us on Saturday mornings. So, with that in mind, we approached these two guys and asked if we could join them for a bit. Sadly they were just leaving and they are headed back to Italy this week. HOWEVER, there was one more guy on the court and so we approached him and asked the same. He said sure we could join him and we proceeded to play basketball with him for an hour (in dress shoes, slacks, a white shirt, and a tie mind you). He is so cool! He is just starting A levels in the fall and he has been playing basketball a little over a year. He is from Oxford and he is honestly a really nice guy. And the best (weirdest) thing about him? HIS NAME IS FINN. Like what even. I was totally caught off guard. Anyways, he is going on holiday so he won't be able to join us until next week but he is really keen to join our Saturday sessions. He is also pretty brilliant at basketball. Hence the title.

Also on Friday we got to go to the dils house and it involved fajitas, an impromptu search for one of their children who disappeared in the middle of dinner, finding him about a block away, trying to prevent the neighbours cat from coming inside their house, and catching foam rockets that Aiden and Jacob were launching in their front yard. It was so much fun. I love that family so much. They ended dinner by sending us home with a 50 lb bag of rice. On a totally unrelated note we are having rice for dinner every day this week.

Saturday included more basketball, a lesson after basketball, discussing all of the commandments, and proceeding to tell our friend to not think about them too much now and that we would get to them at some point. Thank goodness for patience.

Sunday was so long. It was really good though. We had church and dinner with the Petersens who are like the older siblings I have never had. They rock.

Yesterday we had interviews with President and Sister Checketts! They are amazing. I love them so much. I am so excited I get to serve with them for the next year and that I will get to know them better over the coming months. We got to go to London again which was a blast but took all day so we were a little tired last night. That didn't stop us from going to FHE with our friend and tearing up the trivia questions. Not really but I tried. I am a little rusty.

British word of the week: A levels - basically it is the last two years of high school for English people and they pick specific areas to focus their studies on and the tests they take determine where they can go to uni

British food of the week: burger king - I did not get it but elder man got burger king yesterday and they still have supersizing here so he supersized his meal and it was massive.

Scripture of the week: Jacob 3:1-2 prayer really helps my friends

Companion Comic: elder man keeps telling me that rather than having the doctors surgically fix my ingrown toe nail, he will do it for free. I am still going to the doctor.

It has been a weird week and I am definitely learning and growing a lot. I love you all loads. Thanks for the support and the prayers and the love. I feel it. Have a great one!
