Hello and good morning everyone! This week has been interesting and I'll get right to it! So we got transfer calls this weekend...and I'm staying in Holsworthy! I'll be here for at least 6 more weeks. Our mission President doesn't really like to move missionaries a lot so I'll probably be here for another 5 months. Missionaries in this mission typically spend about 6 months in an area. I'm actually excited to be here for a little while longer. I love the members and it's fun getting to meet so many different people everyday.
Now you might be asking, "wait I thought he said he was moving". Well we are. Not places but flats. We found a flat closer to where we have church (about 30 minutes closer) and after much negotiating between the mission office and the estate agent, we should be moving in a few weeks! Exciting! I should be on HGTV with all the experience I have now.
I went on exchange again this week. This time, the leader missionary came to Holsworthy and I had to take the lead on where to go and what to do. It was intimidating but fun. It's interesting to see how much you can grow in just a few short weeks.
I hit my 2 months mark this week! It seems like it has only been a day since I left but wow the time flies.
We met a really cool guy named Ruarri this week. He's a pretty spiritual guy but doesn't think that our church is for him. However, he did say that before we met him, he thought Mormons were just a bunch of American polygamists, possibly even vampires. Now he says he'll make sure that people know Mormons aren't any of those last two things and that they are wonderful people. That's a win for us kind of I guess.
British Food of the Week: custard - served with all puddings. Can be quite good if made well. Very fattening. Ugh.
British word of the week: (it's a phrase this week) not bothered - you don't care or it doesn't effect you at all; "what kind of cheese do you want to get Elder Lopiano? I'm not bothered Elder McKinley" that's a real life conversation right there. Exciting stuff huh :)
Companion Comic: so about two nights ago, this terribly loud beeping noise woke us up in the middle of the night. I jumped out of bed and tried to find it and shut it off but I didn't know what it was coming from. Before I could find out it turned off. The next morning we realized it was probably the smoke detector and if that had been a fire, we might have die. We just couldn't be bothered. (Also it's all fine, there was no fire, we just have a crappy old smoke detector).
Scripture for the week: Mosiah 4:9-12 this is a good one and is helping sustain me every day.
Now I'm going to hit the heavy stuff for a minute. Hard and fast. This week has already been rough. It's going to still be rough. To think that it's been a year since Sawyer died is unreal. It feels like yesterday. Tears have come and gone. They will continue to come. But I thank you for your support and your love. I know that it makes a difference. The love you all have for me and my family blows my mind every day. I miss Sawyer like crazy but know that I'll see him again. He's with me every day. So is God and for that I'm eternally grateful.
I'll end this email with a light note. I have this great idea for a tv show. There's a hand car wash here in town that we go to every week. There is a really interesting mix of people who work there. I think it's a great plot for a tv show to follow the lives of the 8-10 odd people that work there. It'd be like a friends and office mash up. And we'd call it "mates". Thoughts? I think it has great potential personally.
I love you all. Thank you for the emails. Keep them coming. They are a nice boost many days. You are all in my thoughts and prayers. Until next week,
Elder McKinley
